Many people remember her, others don't know her, and some remember her face but don't know what happened. Well, her story needs to be told; so none of us will forget her, and so we might save another from such a horrible fate.
Just so you know, I am going to give you as many details I can give you, from my memory and from what I've researched. I won't give too much--the links below under 'Case' give more than I will. But, just because you may be squeamish, I will NOT lift up on any details I know.
JonBenet Ramsey was born on August 6, 1990. Through her life, she devolped into a very adorable and beautiful little girl. In fact, she had entered various child beauty contests, almost always beating out the rest of the girls; a large rumor was that other parents would pull their daughter out of the comptetion if JonBenet was in, because they knew she would win (this however is unknown). Her last pagent was on December 22, 1996, where she won the title of "Little Miss Christmas." She was one of rare and few girls who actually loved beauty pagents and wanted to be in them. Not because of the prizes, but because it was a hobby to her. If she didn't win, she was always the first one to congradulate the winner.
Her parents tucked JonBenet into bed on Christmas Night after spending the day with friends, and they left for bed too. I have heard reports that JonBenet woke up in the night, having wet the bed; and either her father or mother took care of it. There is also another report that JonBenet was hungry in the night and one of her parents fed her pineapple, but neither mother or father claimed to have given it to her.
Sometime early the next morning, between 5:00 and 6:00 AM, Patsy Ramsey (JonBenet's mother) woke up and went downstairs. There, she found a 2 & 1/2 to 3-page ransom note for her daughter, addressed specifically to Mr. Ramsey. They were not to call the police, FBI, or their friends--or JonBenet would be beheaded. A sum of money, which happened to be the exact same amount that Mr. Ramsey had recieved for a bonus that year, reaching $180,000, was to be sent to the kidnappers for JonBenet. Needless to say, Patsy freaked and called the police, telling them that her daughter was kidnapped, where the family lived, and how old JonBenet was at the time.
The killer said they would call between 8:00AM to 10:00AM to tell them where to go to give them the money. No phone call came, and by 1:00PM, Patsy was a wreck. Police asked Mr. Ramsey to search the house one more time, and he, along with a friend, complied. They checked the basement first, going down into every room in the "wine cellar". There, in a far room, in the back, they found JonBenet.
A thick cord had been wrapped around her wrist and her neck; the cord around her neck was attached to a handle of one of Patsy's paintbrushes, used as a garrote. A thick bruise--police found it may have been from the blunt end of that same paintbrush, before it was turned into a garrote--was on the side of her face. The autopsy later said that a large 8-and-a-half inch fracture in her skull. A strip of duct tape was over her mouth; when it was removed by her father, her lips were blue. A small red heart was drawn on the palm of her left hand. A claim that stun-gun marks were on her body was made, but it was never checked.
She had been dead for hours. She had been tortured, killed, and (possibly) sexually assaulted. DNA was found in her undergarmets (in her blood), and in her fingernails.
Many people say that the parents were the ones to kill their daughter, and they could have had reasons too. JonBenet was very beautiful; and, in my opinion, more beautiful than her mother. So, that could have been a motive. Or the fact the JonBenet may have wet the bed could have been another. Or, I have heard, that JonBenet got angry at her mother earlier that night; she didn't want to wear the same thing her mother was wearing to a friend's Christmas party.
Mr. & Mrs. Ramsey spent thousand upon thousands of dollars to clear their names, along with their son's (Burke), who was nine at the time and was also blamed for her death by tabloids. Police suspected them because they found JonBenet's body in the basement, and other reasons--one of hem being that the ransom note was written on paper that came from Patsy's writing tablet. Another thing that was brought up was when Patsy made the phone call, she didn't hang up quick enough--her son was heard in the background (after the phone call was enhanced), saying, "But what did you find?", to which his dad told him, "We weren't talking to you."
All of JonBenet's family members were finally cleared on July 9th, 2008.
Another person would have had many reasons. The Ramseys are very wealthy and the killer could have gotten a large amount of money for JonBenet; thousands, maybe a million or two. JonBenet was really famous for winning beauty contests, so why not abduct a famous and beautiful child? Or, perhaps, they wanted another person to win all of those beauty competitions, so they'd have to get rid of the sure-fire winner first.
JonBenet was terribly exploited after her death. Over 2,000 children had been killed in 1996, but none of them were known as well as JonBenet. Maybe for the fact that she was the daughter of rich parents, or that she was killed on Christmas? Or that she was a beauty queen in-the-making? She was all over the tabloids, in the newspapers, and all over the Internet. From what I have gathered, there is a movie about her, made about her death and the aftermath.
Many people are not happy with the parenting styles of the Ramseys. I am not positive of whether or not they had an alarm system in their house. The wine cellar that JonBenet was found in had no windows. A recent test was done in the house, called the "scream test", due to the fact that a neighbor said that they heard a scream the night JonBenet was murdered. One investagator stayed in the wine cellar JonBenet was found in, while anohter stayed in the bedroom, and the last one stayed outside. The investagator in the cellar screamed as loud as he could. The investagator in the bedroom never heard him. The investagator outside heard him. So, it was easier to hear a scream from the wine cellar outside of the house than it was inside of the house, three stories above in the parents' room.
In 2006, a man, who was in a Thailand jail and whose name I shall not mention, claimed to have murdered JonBenet. He called her death "an accident", even though it clearly wasn't. However, his DNA did not match the one found on the young girl's body. A witness, his ex-wife, also said that he was with her, in Alabama, on the night JonBenet was murdered, in Colorado. Unfortunately, Mrs. Ramsey died in June of the same year, due to cancer; she died before investagators found out whether he had killed JonBenet or not.
Had JonBenet not been killed, on August 6 of this year, she would have been 18.
It has been 12 years since her death.
Her killer has never been found.
PLEASE: if you want her story to be told; if you want the American justice system to find her killer and give them what they deserves; if you want to remember her; please... remember her name, write a journal if you want, keep her moving.
We NEED to remember her.

JonBenet Ramsey
August 6, 1990 - December 25, 1996
We shall never forget you, little angel.
You shall live on in our hearts, and in the minds of those who care for you.
I'm glad you knew Jesus.
It makes my heart feel better knowing that you are with Him in Heaven.
It's where you belong and where nobody will hurt you ever again.

Punishment is given out of anger; discipline is given out of love
It would be hard to believe that a mother would kill her child that way. It sounds to me that the killer could have been trying to frame her, but then again, I'm no detective.
This is a very kind gesture. I'm glad that you are taking time to remember a poor, lost little soul. Hopefully, one day her case will be solved and she will be allowed to rest in peace.
